Who are Barenaked Ladies?
In a nutshell, and to quote an all-too-often used line: “They’re not bare, they’re not naked, and they’re not ladies”. They are, in fact, a rock band from Canada who are probably best known to UK audiences for singing “chickity china the chinese chicken” or the theme song to the Big Bang Theory. Delve into the band’s history and you will find there is a lot, lot more to the story, starting way back in 1988…
What is BNLUK.net?
BNLUK.net is the ‘premiere fansite’ for UK (and EU) fans of Barenaked Ladies.
BNLUK.net was formed in 2002 and quickly established its place in a corner of the internet, with a bustling forum and downloads site. It quickly formed a dedicated community and attracted thousands of hits. In 2005, the site was taken offline.
However, in late 2009, the site returned and embraced new technologies such as social networking: the community is now bigger and more ‘connected’ than ever. The site acts as a resource for news, information and media regarding the band.
In 2010, BNLUK.net gave away 130 ticketsfor the UK leg of BNL’s All In Good Time tour. From Bristol through to Dublin, fans of the band in each city were given a chance to win tickets for the shows. Other competitions have included signed Joel Plaskett CDs (personalised to the winners); T-Shirt giveaways, and lots more fun stuff…
Also in 2010, BNLUK.net had the pleasure of interviewing Barenaked Ladies and their support acts for the tour, Joel Plaskett and Boothby Graffoe. This followed interviews with Kevin Hearn and Brothers Creeggan in the site’s previous incarnation a few years before. All are available to watch/read right here on the site.
Celebrity endorsers of BNLUK include Iain Lee, Geoff Lloyd and of course the band themselves… yes, BNLUK has the Barenaked approval! Check out the video of Ed on the right hand side.
The shows on the 2010 UK tour were recorded by BNLUK and are available for FREE download on the website. These are exclusive recordings, so get downloading and re-live those memories!
In June 2011, the site underwent another makeover and, while the main focus of the site is still on the UK/EU community, it now intends to act as a fan resource for Barenaked Ladies fans across the world.
Make sure to keep popping back to this site for the latest BNL updates, news and chat. Thanks to everyone for the the continued support!
